Working Holiday Visa for Australians Going to Italy

Eligibility
To be eligible you must:
- be aged between 18 and 30 inclusive at the time of application
- hold a valid Australian passport
- be in Australia at the time of application
- not have previously participated in the Italian Working Holiday Program
- have a return ticket or sufficient funds to buy one
- meet health and character requirements
- have no dependent children
Visa Fee
The visa costs €75.
Proof of Funds
You must have €3,500 in available funds and must prove it with a recent, original
bank statement or creditcards.
Quota
There are 1,500 visas available each year.
Validity
The visa is valid for entry up to 3 months from the date the visa is granted and allows
a stay of 12 months from the date of first entry.
Employment Restrictions
Any employment must be of a temporary, casual nature. You are permitted to work a total of
6 months and may not work for the same employer for longer than 3 months.
Re-Entry
You may leave and re-enter multiple times but the time allowed for your visa will
not be paused while you are away.
How to Apply
Applications must be made in person at the Italian Embassy in Canberra or
at any of the consular offices located around the country.
General Comments
You must report to the police station (Questura office) in the town or city where you
intend to reside within 8 days of arrival in Italy to apply for a "permesso di soggiorno" which
is a residence permit. It will take a few days to obtain and is required to apply for a work permit. The work permit
is issued by the Direzione Provinciale del Lavoro (Provincial Labour Office) which is a branch of the Ministry of
Labour in each provincial city. The work permit will be issued within 20 days from receipt of the application.
Any time that you change province of residence you have to apply again for both.
