Eligibility

To be eligible you must:

be aged between 18 and 30
hold an Australian passport
not have previously participated in the German Working Holiday Program
hold medical and comprehensive hospitalisation insurance for the length of your stay
have a return travel ticket
not be accompanied by dependents

Visa Fee

The visa costs €60 payable in Australian funds by cash or money order.

Proof of Funds

You must have a minimum of AUD$400 per month for the complete length of your stay and be able to prove this with a current bank statement or a sponsorship declaration with proof of income of your sponsor.

Quota

There is no quota.

Validity

The visa is valid for 12 months but must be validated within 3 months of receiving it.

Employment Restrictions

There are no restrictions on where you work but each job cannot last longer than 90 days.

Re-Entry

You may leave and re-enter multiple times but the time allowed for your visa will not be paused while you are away.

Application forms are available from the Consulate General of Germany and you must apply to the relevant Consulate (see contact details below) in person. You can find more information here.

General Comments

The visa takes about 2 weeks to process. If you are already living abroad you can apply at consular posts of Germany wherever you are living.
